A message from Ichiro Ozawa
The true mission of politics is to protect people’s livelihoods.
Based on this principle, I have worked to introduce new political frameworks including the introduction of the single-member constituency system in order to make it easier for citizens’ voices to be heard in politics. As a result, each individual voter can now make their voice heard and effect political change.
Last year, there was once again a change of government.
However, the current administration is not doing anything practical for the people.
A limited section of society is simply growing wealthy, and the gap between rich and poor continues to widen.
On the issue of nuclear power, the government, motivated by short-term economic interests, is looking to restart nuclear power plants without resolving any of the existing problems.
The government actively intends to build new nuclear reactors and export nuclear power overseas.
We should be extremely wary of such moves.
We want to build politics for the people – politics that protect citizens’ lives, livelihoods and communities.
That is why we hope the people will vote for us once again.
Together we can change Japan.
We are determined to move boldly and directly forward towards that goal.
